Besan ke gatte

Gatte as it is called is a delicacy made from besan / gram flour. I have fondest memory of this dish as it was taught by my mom, I try my very best to make this dish accordingly as she taught me. Gatte ki subzi is dedicated to my mom.


It is a delicacy that can be served with chapati as well as rice. In this picture gatte are served with peas pulao.
Preparation time- 30 – 35 mins | Serves – 3

Ingredients- Dough

  • 250gms besan/ gram flour
  • 1tsp fennel seeds
  • 2tbsp oil for moin
  • 1tsp red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Ingredients for gravy

  • 2tomatoes grated
  • 3tbsp curd mixed  with 1tsp besan
  • 1/4 TSP turmeric powder
  • 1/2 TSP red chilli powder
  • Salt to taste


Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.



Make a soft dough.


Apply oil to your hand and make logs out of the dough



Boil them in a pan with some water.



Once it is cooked, it will take about 12-15 min, take it out of the water and cut in pieces.


Deep fry them and take out on a kitchen towel.




For the gravy:

  1. Take oil in pan  and put grated tomatoes & curd+ besan mixture and boil & cook well.
  2. Add the spices – red chilli powder, turmeric powder salt to taste ,bring it upto boil and add the fried gatte

Your Gatte ki subzi is ready to be served, as you can see a good colour of red chilli powder with a blend of besan. Enjoy with Rice or chapati
